Lukomir, City of Konjic

Lukomir is the highest village in Bosnia and Herzegovina and a protected national monument, which is also a living ethnological museum. The traditions of nomadic tribes and inhabitants of the Dinaric plateaus shaped its culture. With scattered tombstones from the 14th and 15th centuries, its specific geography provides a window into the ancient past. Wooden houses made of oak, fir and beech in Lukomir complete the rugged mountain landscape of the Rakitnica canyon.

Gastro offer

Traditional dish of the village: CABBAGE PIE (KUPUSARA) AND AMARANTH PIE (BURN NETTLE).

In addition to these dishes, in Lukomir bean soup, vegetable soup and traditional pies (pie with cheese, potatoes, pumpkin, cabbage and with meat) are traditional dishes. There is also a traditional production of cheeses of both young and dried cheeses (which are placed in a sheepskin bellows and after a certain period of ripening in the bellows becomes “dry” cheese).

Traditional products

NOTE: The tradition of the village of Lukomir lies in the processing of wool from sheep and the production of final wool products, including the making of clothing items such as vests, gloves, sweaters, pullovers, scarves, hats, gloves, etc., featuring the authentic pattern of the village of Lukomir.

This traditional skill of wool processing has been passed down from generation to generation, and it’s mostly performed by women. There are still families who use wool after shearing their sheep and process it to obtain the necessary yarn for knitting. The wool processing involves washing, combing, drying, spinning, and only then preparing wool items.
